[Com] Third Community Update

Welcome to Community Update number 3! This was the big month for the History Editions and a lot of stuff happened, let’s recap and make sure you didn’t miss out on anything.

After that, considering the History Editions are now released and you’re all probably busy playing, we let you know where you can find more maps for the The Settlers games and even provide you with some custom made ones!

And finally we have a cool announcement for you regarding our December event starting soon.

Sounds good? Let’s start.

HISTORY EDITION STREAM & GUIDES

For your entertainment and to get into the right “The Settlers mood” the community team did a few streams of the History Editions and provided you with handy guides to The Settlers 1 to 3.

And just as a small teaser:

In three days time, on November 30th, Ubi-Barbalatu and Ubi-Thorlof will join Lionking1982 and DerSpenderTV in the evening for a The Settlers multiplayer stream. Tune in for some fun in a relaxed atmosphere, but please note: This stream will be in German only.

THE SETTLERS BATTLE

Over the last two months we pitted the games of the The Settlers series against each other to find out which game is the community’s favourite. While we know all games of the series have their fans and some are just too different to be compared directly, we still were curious about the results, to see what our community would make of this with the release of the History Collection just around the corner.

Some results we mostly expected, but the semi-finals and then of course the finals were a rather exciting matter.
Now we can announce that The Settlers III won this competition with 201 to 194 votes across all our Facebook pages! That was a close on. Congratulations!

THE XMAS EVENT

As we already mentioned we have an event announcement for you. From December 1st to December 24th we’re going to ask you some The Settles trivia questions. This will happen over on our three Facebook pages (English, German and French) and each day we will pick a winner for some cool prizes.

The question will be posted at 12PM (CET) and you have till 11:59AM (CET) the following day to comment. After that a winner will be randomly chosen from all participants across all 3 Facebook pages and contacted by our community team.

Sounds good? Sounds exciting? Then make sure to not miss the 1st of December!

MORE MAPS, WHO NEEDS MORE MAPS?

The map editor is a beloved tool which was used to create hundreds of new maps for several of The Settlers games. For The Settlers 2, Ubi-Barbalatu already created one special map titled “Thorlof-Troll” which Ubi-Thorlof and Ubi-Guddy then played live on the stream mentioned earlier. You can download it here. Since then we have been busy and created two more The Settlers 2 maps for you, so feel free to download them and try them for yourself:

Name: Fields
Author: Ubi-Barbalatu

[DOWNLOAD]

Name: Duck of Crystal Lake
Author: Ubi-Thorlof

[DOWNLOAD]

And if that’s still not enough, check out the two big community map websites Siedler Maps (German and English) and Siedelwood (German only). You’ll find plenty of new and exciting maps there for almost all games of the series.

With the History Editions now released, we’re looking forward to hearing your The Settlers stories. We’re sure you have plenty of new ones to share.

Also, be prepared for two new blogs about the new The Settlers now in December after “History Edition November” is over.

And if you got an amazing community project you want to introduce to us, are working on magical The Settlers videos or creating some really cool new maps for any of the The Settlers games then mail us at thesettlers-community@ubisoft.com and we’ll feature you in our next blog.

[Com] Second Community Update

Hello everyone and welcome to another community update!

Since our last one some time has passed and we revealed a lot more awesome details about The Settlers. But the coming month will be all about the “The Settlers History Editions” – and some members of the community have already been actively creating nostalgic content.

VIDEO CREATORS AND STREAMERS

The release of the “The Settlers 1 History Edition” led to a spike in streams, and we want to highlight a few of them here. We had derspendertv and lionking1982 both diving into the game that started this franchise and after a little bit of time to get used to the controls (and learning the buildings) they started to really enjoy the old-school vibes of The Settlers 1. Check out their channels – but be warned, it’s German 😉

For everyone enjoying some The Settlers 3 multiplayer action, make sure to visit mrblues3 and suma3333 or watch the VODs on their channels. They’re both using the great community tool aLobby for finding opponents to play with, as you can see. For the History Edition we’ll bring back an easier way for multiplayer: You can easily start and find matches via Uplay and invite your friends.

Aside from streamers, there are of course also several guys creating videos on YouTube. The focus here mainly is on the campaigns and less on multiplayer, so if you want to want to follow Zockerlounge’s Trojan adventures in The Settlers IV (in German) or Aliestor’s Roman conquests in The Settlers III, head on over to their channels. Maybe their videos will also provide you with valuable tips and tricks for your own playthrough.
And on top of that, GouldFish On Games created a wonderfully nostalgic review of The Settlers I which you might want to have a look at.

Several of our wonderful content creators are also active on the The Settlers fan Discord “Wuselworld”. So to share your own videos and screenshots or just to talk to fellow The Settlers fans, why not take a look?

NOSTALGIC COMMUNITY ANECDOTE

We’ve asked many of you to tell us a little bit about your personal history with the The Settlers series, about fond memories, funny anecdotes and more. Today we want to feature moin_moin_2018’s memories:

When the first part was released I must have been 12 or 13 years old. We didn’t gave a PC yet, back then so about 2 to 3 times a week I cycled 10 kilometers to my friend’s place just to watch him play The Settlers 1.

When The Settlers 2 released I had my own PC. A 486, DX2/80, with turbo mode as well as a double speed CD drive. The CD drive made me quite popular at school 😉
The second game I played for ages but the thing I still remember today was a this strange situation with one of my mines. One my gold mines ran out of resources and usually you tear it down and move on. Don’t remember why but I forgot to tear it down. And after a while I again received the message that it was depleted. I was surprised about getting another message about the same mine and just watched it for a bit. A little bit later food was delivered and the settler really went down into the shaft and brought new gold with him. Even though the mine was said to be empty.

After a few new gold deliveries I again received the “mine depleted” message. And well, I waited again until food was delivered and again he started bringing new gold to the surface.

Unfortunately, this was my only mine with this strange function. All others worked normally and were indeed depleted at some point.

Don’t know why this memory stuck with me for such a long time but it was pretty cool.

NOVEMBER OUTLOOK

As we said at the very beginning of this blog, November will focus on the History Editions, celebrating The Settler’s 25th birthday!
That’s why we decided to not publish any new Dev-Blogs about the upcoming The Settlers but instead provide lots of content around part 1 to 7. Get ready for useful guides, several history streams by the community team and of course lots of nostalgia.

The very first stream with Ubi-Barbalatu and Ubi-Thorlof will happen on the 31st of October. They will try their best to build a proper settlement in The Settlers 1 – more details to follow. In November we’ll then have several more streams which we’ll announce soon. Stay tuned for more info!

We’re always happy to hear about your The Settlers stories and anecdotes in the comments and discuss with you the pros and cons of roads, the differences between The Settlers 3 and 4 and why carriers are the unsung heroes of the series.

And if you got an amazing community project you want to introduce to us, are working on magical The Settlers videos or creating cool, funny or simply stunning fan art then mail us at thesettlers-community@ubisoft.com and we’ll feature you in our next blog.

Besides that, we have received some queries that people cannot comment on the website. We wanted to explain how it works as it might be a bit confusing in the beginning.

Discord:

Do you feel the wusel in you? Or is it missing somewhere? Why don’t you join the fan discord created from HarroLP – our awesome community member. Even in this early stage, we have some true fans and amazing people in our community.

Hey Wuselfans ! My name is HarroLP and I am the founder of the Settlers Wuselworld. I hope that our small Wuselworld will welcome new members soon and we can discuss all the different titles in the future. Additionally, this server will offer a nice place to talk about anything else.

As soon as I heard that there will be a new The Settlers game and a community platform, my first thought was: “Is there already a Discord server for The Settlers !?” Apparently, this was not the case and that is why I started planning something and thought: “You can create a temporary solution if no one else creates something.” Some of you might know I am an Annofan through and through and had little to do with the Settlers so far. However, I did not want to disappoint the Settlers fans.

As you can see now, a proper server has emerged from the emergency solution and thanks to the support of my moderators and helper’s muf and haep, who you may know from the Ubisoft forums, always stood by my side with their help and advice.

Of course, I did not want to be completely ignorant either and started playing the Settlers 1 History Edition. I am really looking forward to the newest part! I really like the previous reports and the shown gameplay very much and I hope some settler’s experts can help me at the release!

Forum Contest Winner:

If you followed gamescom 2018 or any gaming news closely, you might have seen that we announced The Settlers History Editions and The Settlers History Collection, which is dated for release November 15. The Settlers 1 History Edition is already available on Uplay, but we thought, it might be awesome to see the community’s favorite idyllic screenshots from previous The Settlers games.

Our forum moderator haep created a thread on the forums and asked for exactly this. The task was easy: Create a self-made screenshot of a particularly idyllic, beautiful moment in your favorite The Settlers game.

We wanted to use the opportunity to thank everyone for participating and submitting their favorite screenshot. We were blown away by the creativity and beauty of those screenshot. We could only pick 10 winners – 10 for each language – but rest assured, we will have more contests in the future. Keep your eyes open, we will definitely announce more contests on all our channels.

Share your story:

Of course, we want to hear from you. If you have an interesting story to share or want to highlight and awesome community project, maybe you have some amazing The Settlers fan art feel free to e-mail us via thesettlers-community@ubisoft.com.

– Your The Settlers Team
